On paper, a movie centered around death may seem like a mood killer for the holidays, but Jim Parsons and Ben Aldrige deliver immaculate performances that make the tears all worthwhile. Inspired by a true story, Spoiler Alert exhibits prominent themes of pain, love, and perseverance wrapped up into one hell of a movie.

She enjoys watching anime and k-dramas, but also reads non-fiction books in her spare time. She loves all things poetry and has an unruly obsession for coffee. Along with Emancipation, Women Talking does seem like the anomaly to a cheery holiday binge-watch. However, the masterpiece of a film is worth the grim and solemn tone that spills through the television speakers and into the fairy-light-covered home.
Would give it a 10, but the romance is a little contrived, and not necessary for the enjoyment. Jodie Foster's HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS takes a rather formula plot and manages to make it something quite memorable thanks in large part to her direction as well as some really great performances. We've seen these type of family-get-together-at-the-holidays movies throughout history yet Foster manages to make this film feel quite original and real. They worked on the script so that the film reflected Foster's point of view and her own life experiences.

Aside from the sisters, Julie Harris does an amazing job seeming like she’s full of dark secrets and potentially dangerous. Even the bed-ridden father can’t seem to be trusted. It’s very refreshing to see a whodunit that actually works. Director John Llewellyn Moxey, already a pro with TV horror, does well keeping us second guessing ourselves and building the tension right to the very end. Written by “Psycho” scribe Joseph Stefano, Home For the Holidays is quite the intriguing little mystery that hooks us right from the start and never lets go. Although the characterization is fairly minimal, it’s still effective as each sister is clearly defined and made easy targets for suspicion.
The whole cast clicks well individually as well as a team to bring us Thanksgiving Day at the Larson household. He also really enjoys watching Claudia and Leo Fish figure each other out. It is a snug little favorite of mine already.

It has no real plot other than to do weird flashy animation with voices that sound almost like the originals, but definitely not the real ones. Bad in the show...like drugs, guns, or cussing... But IMHO it's basically a throwaway piece of junk. Do yourselves and your kids a favor and don't put this junk in their brains. Also giving a strong performance, though less than subtle, is Robert Downey Jr., who makes Tommy a character you're either going to love or hate, depending upon your own personal experience and frame of reference.
It's why we go to movies - to drop the cares and concerns of our own worlds and lives and enjoy a couple of vicarious hours of entertaining film making. You really care for both main characters and want them to find love again. Jodie Foster managed to give usa deliciously written and directed film about the tribulations of belonging to a family and the consequential heartache brought by growing apart from them as one becomes an individual. The sincerity of the script turns out to be one hell of a smash in the head to anyone that can empathize with the basic situations confronted in a typical holiday gathering.
What Parents Need to Know
When I first watched this movie I knew nothing about it. I hadn't seen any trailers or knew who plays in it so (if you've seen it) you probably know what I'm referring to. But anyway, the movie has a beginning, middle and end.
Which ever way you go, however, you're going to have to appreciate what Downey brings to this film. He fairly bursts upon the scene and the screen with an energy that would make that famous bunny enviable and pale by comparison. And let's face it, every family has a Tommy, and for that matter a Joanne, as well, whom Stevenson brings to life with acuity. And one of the strengths of this film is the very real way in which the relationship between the siblings is presented; chalk up another point for Foster, as well as for the gifted actors portraying them. Winning two Best Actress Oscars and having a lot of friends among her peers probably allowed director Jodie Foster to assemble a great ensemble cast for her film Home For The Holidays.
You know, I saw "Apocalypto" this weekend as well, and, of the two, "Apocalypto" was the feel good movie, and "The Holiday" filled me with rage. One had some integrity; the other was an empty exercise in marketing. "The Holiday"'s cast is top notch, except for the terminally mediocre Jack Black, whose entire film career is some sort of cosmic joke. Jack Black's character was sweet, not corny . He was not a goober like he usually is in his movies.

Also the Amanda character played by Cameron Diaz annoyed me at first and I found her kind of artificial and ego centric. However as the film played on I found myself really liking this film. The characters grew on me and I found quite a bit to like about this movie. The chemistry between all the different characters works very well and their parts are all quite well written and the actors playing them each do a good job. I found that the film also developed and showed a lot about these characters which I enjoyed because the more I got to know about them the more I liked them and they were able to grow on me more.
-- that goes cosmically wrong before everyone pulls together to make things right. But it's all an excuse to gently send up holiday icons, and to be very silly, and kids will love it. This was the weirdest, strangest, nonsensical garbage I've seen in a while. It's so bad that we turned it off a few minutes into it...
Lots of laughter and tears in the audience. This is one of his first films that he plays a father in and he does it so well. The first scene that he is in with Cameron Diaz in which he kisses her eyes is so romantic. It makes all of us single girls just want to keep Jude on our couch and not let him get away. The kitchen scene is just a heart melting, gut wrenching, make your husband look out. The supporting characters were amazing as well.
